Facial wrinkles and folds can make you look older than you feel. Loss of volume in your hands can also take away from your attractiveness and youthfulness, particularly when you are wearing short-sleeved tops. Radiesse® is a synthetic dermal filler that can smooth out wrinkles and add volume to areas such as the cheeks and lips. It is also the first (and only) FDA-approved dermal filler for hand augmentation to restore volume lost in the hands. Many patients who receive this treatment to enhance the appearance of facial areas or their hands look much younger and improve their self-image.

What Areas Does Radiesse® Treat?
Your plastic surgeon or injection specialist may use Radiesse® dermal filler to address a number of aesthetic concerns:
- Restore volume to the cheeks or other parts of the face
- smooth out folds and wrinkles
- Restore volume in the temples
- Reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds
- Make your jowls look less pronounced
- Make the nose appear narrower and straight
- Augment a hollow cheek that has lost volume
- Restore volume and smooth out your hands
- Improve the appearance of droopy mouth corners
How Does Radiesse® Work?
Radiesse® dermal filler is based on calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) gel microspheres. Calcium hydroxyapatite is naturally occurring in the human body. Once this substance is injected beneath your skin, it stimulates the development of collagen, thus allowing your skin to make more of its own filler. Eventually, the calcium hydroxyapatite will be re-absorbed into the body, leaving the newly generated collagen in place. Since this product is gradually re-absorbed over time, it preserves fullness and smoothness in the treatment area(s).
Preparation and Procedure
Dr. Balinger asks that patients stop taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as Advil, ibuprofen, Motrin, aspirin, Aleve, etc) about five days before their Houston TX Radiesse® injections. This is important to reduce the risk of small bruises at the treatment site. You should also stop drinking and smoking at least a week before your treatment. Radiesse® injections are administered in Dr. Balinger’s minor procedures room. To begin with, you will be asked to sit in a relaxed position as the targeted treatment areas are cleaned and marked. You can expect to experience mild discomfort during your treatment but this can be addressed using a numbing cream. The selected Radiesse® dose will be injected beneath the skin using a fine needle. Pre-markings on the treatment area will help guide the specialist in administering this treatment. Once this procedure is complete, a compress may be used to minimize bruising and swelling.
What to Expect From Radiesse®
Mild swelling, bruising, and redness are common after a Radiesse treatment. This tends to resolve within a week. Results are typically visible right away but you may have to wait for up to a month for a good impression of the final outcome. A Radiesse® treatment usually lasts longer compared to many other dermal fillers (up to 2 years). If you experience intense discomfort or are worried about anything after this procedure, Dr. Balinger’s office will be available to answer all your questions.
Plan your Radiesse® in Houston TX
The cost of Radiesse® injections will vary based on the specifics of your treatment. During your visit to Dr. Balinger’s office, the surgeon will provide a cost estimate based on a personalized treatment plan developed for you. Health insurers typically do not cover the cost of Radiesse® because it is considered to be an elective cosmetic procedure. However, the surgeon offers financing options for his patients in Houston, Conroe, and surrounding TX areas.
