Breast reduction – also referred to as reduction mammoplasty – is a procedure that alleviates the cosmetic and health concerns caused by very large breasts. Many women with macromastia (excessively large breasts) suffer from physical symptoms such as back pain, neck pain, skeletal deformities, skin irritations, and respiratory problems.
Breast reduction surgery is an outpatient procedure that is performed at Dr. Balinger’s in-office operating room or an accredited medical facility. The surgeon’s anesthesiologist will sedate you in order to ensure your comfort and safety throughout the procedure. Once this is done, the surgeon will create a small incision resembling an anchor running from the areola to the breast crease. Loose skin will be tightened and liposuction may also be used to get rid of excess fat. Dr. Balinger takes great care to maintain proper symmetry and balance nipple positioning while performing this surgery. Once the desired procedure goals have been achieved, the surgeon will close the incisions and apply bandages to the treatment area. You will be put in an observation room where your vitals will be monitored before you are allowed to go home for recovery.
