What Does the Procedure Involve, and how Long Will it Take?

  • Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure performed in our office. 
  • Local anesthesia is used to numb the treatment area. General anesthesia is not needed for labia reduction. 
  • Dr. Balinger carefully removes small amounts of tissue from the labia minora or labia majora, using a special surgical device known as Iris scissors. The goal is to reshape your labia to achieve the desired, aesthetically pleasing outcome. 
  • Dr. Balinger uses advanced surgical techniques to ensure nerves in this area and sexual sensation are preserved.
  • The incisions are closed with sutures.

Will I need much recovery time?

What are the different surgical techniques for labiaplasty?

Trim technique

This is the simplest type of labiaplasty. The surgeon creates a small vertical incision along the length of the inner vaginal lips. This can be done using either a laser or scalpel. Once the incision is made, the next step is to remove excess vaginal tissue and reshape the area as required. The incisions are then closed using stitches.

Wedge technique

This entails removing excess tissue via the center of the labia minora. The surgeon creates an incision to remove tissue from the thickest section of the inner labia. Once this is done, the detached sides are stitched back together. One of the biggest advantages of this approach is that it results in less visible scarring.

De-epithelialization technique
