What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

The procedure involves harvesting fat cells from a body area with excess, purifying the cells, and injecting them into the rear to create a shapelier, more defined, attractive contour. This procedure has an added benefit: It sculpts another area of the body, whether love handles, tummy, or thighs, enhancing your figure while creating a rounder, more appealing butt.

Are you envious of celebrities or friends who were blessed with nice, round buttocks? Whether you are a man or a woman you can achieve the same shape with transfers of your own fat. Dr. Balinger offers the Brazilian butt lift in Houston, Conroe, and surrounding areas of Texas.

What are the Benefits of a BBL?

Many women admire the hourglass figure that is seen in celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Amber Rose, and Virginia Gallardo. In addition to accentuating your beauty and feminine figure, a Brazilian butt lift has other unique advantages.

Enhanced proportions

Fat grafting improves your butt appearance and creates a beautiful “hourglass” shape. If you lead a healthy lifestyle but feel your butt is too flat or too small, a BBL can help you reach your goals.

Body sculpting with fat removal

Unwanted fat is removed from donor areas and injected into the buttocks. You will achieve a more attractive figure by removing excess fat from the abdomen, hips, thighs, or love handles. It’s a win-win procedure!

Natural fat transfer

The butt can be enhanced with implants, but a Brazilian butt lift involves your own natural fat for a soft, natural look and feel that lasts. The transferred cells become integrated and a natural part of your body.

Improved cellulite appearance

A BBL results in a firmer and fuller butt that feels soft and natural – because it is.  Since this cosmetic surgery tends to lift the buttock, it can reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Am I a Candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?

A Brazilian butt lift is a specialized fat transfer treatment to augment the shape and size of the buttocks with natural fat harvested from your body. You may be an ideal candidate for this procedure if:

  • You are in good physical and emotional health
  • You have good skin laxity, especially at the hip and buttocks areas
  • You have enough unwanted fat stores in other parts to enable the fat transfer
  • You are able to avoid sitting on your buttocks at least for a couple of weeks
  • You have a positive outlook and realistic expectations about your outcome

When you visit Dr. Balinger's Houston clinic for your first BBL consultation, he will evaluate your condition and advise you whether this surgical procedure is appropriate for you. BBL is a highly individualized procedure. For thinner patients who want to enhance the buttocks, custom implants can be placed.

Your Private Consultation

During your consultation for a Brazilian butt lift in Houston, Dr. Balinger will ask questions and review your medical history. He will also examine your body and skin laxity before moving forward to the next step.

This initial consultation – which is offered free of charge at Balinger’s office – is an opportunity to learn more about what this treatment entails and what you can expect from the procedure.

How Should I Prepare for my Brazilian Butt Lift?

Once Dr. Balinger creates a customized treatment plan for you, he will advise you on what you need to do to prepare for the surgery. You will be asked to stop taking some medications and herbal supplements that thin the blood. Smoking is forbidden in the weeks before the surgery because it can increase the risk of complications and impair healing. We will advise you of what to do to prepare for surgery and work with your physician about your medications.

What Should I Expect on the Day of Surgery?

A Brazilian butt lift procedure is typically an outpatient procedure that is performed at Dr. Balinger’s in-office operating room or an accredited surgical facility. Our anesthesiologist will administer either general anesthesia or intravenous sedation in order to ensure your comfort and safety throughout the treatment. Tiny incisions will then be created in the donor areas (abdomen, hips, thighs, lower back, etc.).

Gentle liposuction is performed to harvest fat cells from the donor area. The surgeon will then process the harvested fat for transfer to the buttocks. Injecting the fat into the right points in the buttock is an intricate process that requires the skills of a seasoned surgeon. About 25 percent of the transferred fat is reabsorbed by the body, so some overfilling is necessary. The entire procedure takes between two and four hours to complete.

What is the Recovery Like After a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Special care is required during recovery from a BBL. You will have pain medication and antibiotics to prevent infection. The most difficult aspect of the recovery is that you will not be able to sit down normally for several weeks or sleep on your back.

As you continue to recover, the surgeon will allow you to sit on a special pillow. The idea is to avoid any pressure on the buttocks to allow for healing and natural re-integration of the fat cells.

Most BBL patients are able to resume normal activities in about three weeks, but heavy lifting and strenuous exercise are prohibited until you get the go-ahead from the surgeon. Make sure to follow your aftercare instructions closely. Dr. Balinger’s office is available to answer your questions and provide the support you need throughout your recovery.

Brazilian Butt Lift FAQ

How long will Brazilian Butt Lift results last?

Your body may break down some of the fat that is used for your butt augmentation. Dr. Balinger schedules follow-up appointments to determine if you need additional fat injections to achieve the look that you desire. The results of your Brazilian butt lift may last for several years if you continue to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Will there be scars?

Scars will be only a few millimeters long and fade well.

How long does the procedure take?

Your BBL will take 2-4 hours.

Can I sit after a Brazilian Butt Lift?

You should not sit directly on your bottom for at least 3-4 weeks after your procedure.

Can I combine a BBL with another procedure?

Yes, a BBL is often combined with liposuction, tummy tuck, or breast augmentation, or included as part of a mommy makeover.

Will I lose my BBL results if I work out?

Glute workouts will not cause a loss of BBL results. Targeted exercise for the buttocks can actually help augment the silhouette and maintain the patient’s new sculpted contours. It’s important to maintain your appropriate caloric intake, however. If your metabolism speeds up and you lose too much weight, it could affect your BBL outcome.

How do you go to the bathroom after a BBL?

It’s important to avoid putting pressure on your buttocks after the procedure. You can buy a raised toilet seat with railings to grab if your toilet does not already have a bar to hold onto. This way, you can squat over the toilet without putting your weight on your butt. Because going to the bathroom will be more challenging after a BBL, you might consider taking a stool softener or increasing your fiber intake.

Can I wear leggings after a BBL?

Early in the healing process, it is important not to put any pressure on the treatment area. Therefore, clothing such as jeans and leggings should be avoided for 4-6 weeks. Choose loose, comfortable clothes instead.

How much should you weigh to get a BBL?

Because a BBL is performed using the patient’s own autologous tissue, it’s important that there is enough donor fat available to achieve the desired rounded contours. While there is no perfect weight required to undergo a BBL, the patient’s BMI, fat distribution, and other factors will be considered during the consultation process. Patients with a normal to slightly higher BMI will qualify.
